Questions

questions
overview

One of the advantage Atlas has over traditional content stores is the incorporation of forum style Q&A functionality. The Questions tab is the default view in Atlas. Here users will see a list of questions, the tags that have been attributed to them, and any responses that these questions might have attracted, including Relevant Replies responses with FAQs, Docs or Videos.

Asking questions

To ask a question, respond with an answer or make a comment a user must be logged in to Atlas.

If the information a user seeks in not in the database then the user can seek an answer from other users of the system. To ask a question, a user:

  1. Clicks on the “ask a question” link on the Questions tab
  2. Enters a title for the question. The title field is mandatory
  3. Selects all the tags that apply to the question. At least one tag must be selected.
  4. Enters an optional long description of the question.

The Atlas rich text editor uses Markdown syntax that allows users to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format that is subsequently converted to HTML. The Atlas editor also incorporates SyntaxHighlighter, allowing users to properly format technical information such as computer code.

  1. Attaches any material that pertains to the question that a responder might need to see, such as screen shots or related documents.

*The ability to respond to a question with content type other than text, such as an FAQ, document or video, is part of Atlas’ patent pending Relevant Replies technology.

** You can reply in Atlas with multiple response types

  1. If you choose to respond to a question with a document, video, FAQ or another question then Atlas presents a list of all the content that matches your selection and lets you choose what item(s) you wish to respond with. You may respond with multiple items, for example two documents, or a document and a video.
  2. To respond with text, either on its own or as part of a total response that includes other content types, simply type your reply into the rich text editor.
  3. Click on the Reply label reply.JPG and your reponse will be posted and associated with your User ID.
