All Questions, FAQs, Docs and Videos in Atlas must be associated with at least one tag. To guarantee quality and consistency, the list of tags must be pre-populated by one or more administrators (see Administering Atlas – setting up tags). Countersoft recommend that tags are lowercase and where two words are required to give the tag its correct meaning that those words are hyphenated e.g. “exchange-rate”.
When looking at any of the content type pages, users will see all of the tags that are associated with at least one item of any content type. For example, if a FAQ is associated with a tag “sql-server” then that tag will be shown under the Questions tab even if there are no questions associated with that tag. This allows users to see (and filter by) all of the active tags in the system while keeping unused tags from cluttering up the pages.
To allow users to organize information while limiting complexity Atlas incorporates hierarchical tagging to 1 level. In other words, a tag with a parent may not have a child.

The primary function of tags is to allow users to find content that is relevant to them. Tags work as filters and clicking on a tag will result in all content, of any type being filtered to exclude any items that are not associated with the selected tags.
Tag filtering is cumulative. Selecting tag A and tag B will exclude any content that does not have both tags A and B associated with it.
